The Board has approached former coach Dave Stubbs and asked him to take over. It is hoped he will be in a position to take charge of the first team by the end of the month. He has also been asked to put together his own coaching team - with people from outside of the club so that a fresh start can be made.
In the meantime, club captain Brett Cullinane and first team Skipper Davy Tighe will be in charge of the team which travels to Stockport in the cup this weekend.
Together with Keith Lupton, who is on holiday, Rod MacLure worked tremendously hard for the club to the extent that the pair even built their own dressing rooms in the Pavilion. He travelled many hundreds of miles to make training sessions, and was also present on Sunday mornings to see the up and coming talent coming into the club.
His ambition was to build a young side of home grown players who could move up the leagues but his no-nonsense style, and firmly held views, created some friction within the squad.
MacLure felt he couldn't compromise on the way he handled players and agreed it was in the club's best interests, at the present time, if he stood down.
He leaves the club with a legacy of promising young players, a newly created Stags team doing well in the Merit League and will be known as the man who stopped the rot of successive relegations. We thank him and wish him well.
