The Stags got their ten league points in the double header CaNDY league game at the New Friarage but it wasn't easy ...

After starting well the Stags fell foul of the whistle in the closing stages and, as they became more and more frustrated, the Heughers rallied from 22-7 down to earn some bonus points of their own.

It was the home side who were penalised in the opening stages - Zac Southern's long pass sending Jacob Wood in at the clubhouse corner for an early 5-0 lead.

The Heughers came back with a score in their first attack which was converted. However, Lewis Scott quickly restored the Stags' advantage - taking the ball on the 22 and jinking his way through four defenders to get to the line to give his side a three point lead.

With gthe Heughers dominating the line-out in the first half, the Stags were struggling for decent ball. Hooker Reece did make the most of it when he peeled off on the short side of a maul to take the score to 15-7 at the break.

The West side were dealt an early blow in the second half with Jacob Wood down for some time after putting in a big tackle, and he had to be led from the field. Replacement second row Ollie Webster also off with a knock to the head.

Fortunately, Scott Butcher was on in the second half and he showed all of his old skill to get the Stags back on the front foot.

Aidan Jackson-Smith then secured the try bonus point with a lightning break to the line after spotting a gap  - Southern managing his first conversion.

The Heughers weren't finished and got one back before Butch got himself on the scoresheet. He started the attack with a 30 metre break from his own half and, as the the defence was pushed back to the line,  he was there to force his way over to take the score to 27-12.

It looked like the game may be over,  but the Heughers were able to chase down a loose kick in the Stags 22. It appeared that both sides may have knocked on more than once as the ball eventually squirted clear,  with a home player taking his chance and the score to 27-17 with five minutes left.

Things became lively up front with Butcher sin-binned as the Stags defended in their 22. Advantage was taken with an unconverted try but, with the last play called  from the restart,  the Stags finished the job.
