There were a few changes to the side which beat Rovers. Now there's finally pressure for places the coaches took the opportunity to rotate players. So Anth Carr started at loosehead with Paul Miller on the wing with both Cholmondeley and Abrahams on the bench. Phil Wallis was at full back in place of Martin Todd who was away on a course.

But it was the West pack which started the brightest. After just seven minutes we drove the Huddersfield pack over the line with our boys claiming a try. But the Ref was unable to confirm so we had to settle for a five metre scrum.

After soaking up our early pressure the visitors went ahead when Brett was caught offside some 30 metres out and fly half Grayshon took advantage.

We came straight back and went ahead on 22 minutes. Prolonged pressure on the right flank gave Darren Thomas an opening and he was he winner in a 20 metre chase to reach his gribber kick.

We were looking comfortable but allowed Huddersfield back into the game with mistakes from two of their many high kicks into our 22. Neither was cleared properly and the grateful visitors swooped to score - first through flanker Thornton on 27 minutes and then through winger Barlow on 32 minutes to make it 5-20 at the break.

The amount of possesion the forwards were winning, with Tones and Boatman again superb in the loose, meant we were not out of it. But the ball just wasn't going to hand in the backs and the harder the lads tried to put it right the wrose it became.

Stu Bennett and Brett Cullinane did their best to get the scoreboard rolling again with several pick and drives but Huddersfield were able to hold out.

The visitors went down to 14 men after 65 minutes when prop Chatta offended just once too often ... but we still couldn't force the try which might have been the turning point.

Skipper Stu Bennett was far from disheartened. He said: "They were the league leaders and we gave them a real game and in many areas of the pitch we won our battles. We have definitely turned a corner and now we have to keep the improvemnt going with two important games against Morpeth and Sandal.
