Another Big Derby Day

More bragging rights at stake this week as the Firsts head off to the New Friarage with the Stags hosting the Heughers  - both kicking off at 3.00 ..

There is also the small matter of the Firsts trying to continue their unbeaten start to the season. The first three games have been against newly promoted sides - victories in all three have opened up a three point lead over Medicals. The feeling is that some tries were left on the pitch in those games,  but perhaps the most interesting stat is that the team has only conceded four tries, so far.

Rovers are more experienced at this level, of course, and have had some good results of their own including an opening day win at Novos and a home win over Ponteland. However, they did lose 30-14 at Sunderland last week - the Wearsiders being notoriously strong at home.

We go into the game without skipper Ryan Painter who is at Ritchie Frankland's wedding (congrats). Sam Heron deputises and he will form the partnership with Matt Siddle which was so effective against Rovers in the Boxing Day game last year . Lewis Scott moves to full back with Max Tennant on the wing.

Up front Jay Corbett has made a miraculous recovery from his knee injury last week. He was last seen on crutches garnering sympathy at the Ladies Day party but was able to train on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Chris Atkins injured himself at that session and is out.

Adam Coates has come through his games for the Stags and from the bench last week without out any problems following his broken arm. He starts against Rovers with Michael Hogan dropping back to partner Jake Linighan in the second row.

Jordan Baggs has also been impressing with the Stags. He and Will Corbett will provide some heavyweight back-up on the bench where Adam Hutchinson will also provide cover right across the pitch.

The Stags are also on a roll having defeated Old Boys II's last week. The ref said the score was 46-7 while the Stags coaches thought it was 43-7. A win is a win but sensible money should be on the Ref.

Looks another brilliant weekend at the Club.

Many thanks to all those who contribute on the Website. It's a long way from being there but it is great to be able to keep in touch.

And the good news for the thousands who have been demanding a return of Stan ... We have the spa trip to look forward to.
