The highly respected former English teacher - at Henry Smith's and High Tunstall - failed to return from his usual run yesterday and was found a short time later.
As a scrum half and winger Jim was in the vanguard of the cup winning sides of 1971 and 1972 - successes which paved the way for the club to reach the highest echelons of English rugby.
His half back pairing with Graeme Scarratt was forged at the Grammar School, and the pair were also leading lights for Hartlepool cricket club along with Rene Berthou. Jim was one of the leading opening bowlers in a highly competitive league.
He leaves Joan and Ruth and Matthew and the thoughts of everyone at West are with them.
