Last week Hills narrowly failed to beat league leaders Phoenix in the big Doncaster derby. Only a foot in touch stopped Hills scoring a dramatic last minute winning try.

Of course, we could have ended Phoenix’s unbeaten run in our last home game with a last minute penalty shot of our own, so on paper it looks like being a close one.

We need to get back to winning ways if we are to continue in the top three. Our losses have only been narrow and that’s despite having something of an injury crisis.

The effort and application have been there, but the coaches have been frustrated by the way the game plan goes out of the window as soon as the whistle goes.

There was also a return to some of the chuntering which had more or less disappeared this season . It resulted in one extra ten metre shot at goal for Morpeth – one they gratefully accepted.

It surprised former skipper Anth Carr who was making a return among the replacements. He will figure again from the bench this week with Ross Wood unavailable. Adam Coates returns in Ross’s place and Aaron Myers is back from work commitments, so he’ll come into the back row in the continuing absence of Sam Miller with a back injury.

Liam Bailey has also recovered from injury. He starts on the bench in place of Connor McLurg who had a tremendous game when he stepped up to make his first team debut at short notice last week.

Stu Waites and Zac Southern are still injured so the back line will be the same as the one at Morpeth with CeeJay Beales again providing cover.
