Tim Moves On

Tim Moves On
After a decade of service to the club as player, skipper and coach Tim Sawyer is leaving the club and the town in the new year . The Sawyers are moving to Chelmsford where Tim will be Head of PE at St Cedd's Prep School ...

Tim returned to the club in 2002 after playing for Middlesbrough, arriving at a time when we were struggling to overcome the effects of professionalism.  He came as a back row before being promoted to the front row  where he quickly impressed the club supporters who voted him Player of the Year.

The next season Tim took over as skipper, and continued to be a leading light on the pitch despite some knee injuries and the odd operation.

He earned representative honours with England Deaf before taking over as Head Coach at Brinkburn where he supervised our return [twice] to the National Leagues.

This season family commitments led him to step down as Head Coach - inevitably he has still always been around to provide leadership and advice wherever needed.

Tim says: "Whilst it will be hard leaving the rest of my family, friends and the rugby club behind it's a great opportunity, and one which I'm very excited about.

"It will, however,  be nice to come back to town to watch West from a nice new clubhouse in the not too distant future."

Club Chairman Peter Olsen said: "Tim's contribution to the club over the last decade cannot be overestimated.

"He has kept us all on our toes - both on and off the pitch - and put in a tremendous amount of work.

"He led by example on the pitch and his passion for the club and the game  was a major part of our recent promotions.

"Everyone at the club will wish Tim and Andrea all the best in their new life in Essex, and we look forward to giving them a good send off."

Tim,
Best of luck for the future. You have certainly left a legacy at West that will be hard to follow.

Well said Bill. You would be hard pressed to find a more committed sportsman than Tim. Always focused, hard working and speaks his mind.

I am sure West will always be his club. Good luck to him and his family in Essex.

Massive loss for west! Tim was mine and a number of other lads PE teacher at brierton as well as our rugby coach for both school and at west,he is one of the main reasons the likes of me, coatsy, butch started playing rugby, and through his guidance why we are playing at the level we are today. Over the years he has became a true mate. Wish you and your family all the best Tim. Hogan

Just to echo Hogans comments I can't thank Tim enough for the encouragement and help he has given me over the years he is the reason i started playing rugby and eventually he talked me into joining west's youth teams, so its thanks to him I am where I am today. Even though he says he hates me from time to time he will be sorely missed. Good luck for
The future Tim hope all go's well for you and your family. Coatsy

Just like to re-iterate what hogan has said! Tim was the reason I started playing rugby and thanks to him i was introduced to west. I wouldn't of met some of the fantastic people I have over the years or experienced some of the great times I've had through rugby if it wasn't for him. For that Ill always be grateful. Tim is a top guy who helped steer me in the right direction as a young lad.....id probably be a bit more of a twat if it wasnt for him. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say he'll be hugely missed around the club!!

Best of luck for the future Tim, to you and your family.

I'll have to be honest, I'm buzzing he's leaving! I've never met such a grumpy, miserable man in all of my life and his Craic is appalling. Carlo
