| John Edward Aisbitt was born in Seaton Carew in 1925 and sadly passed away in Stockport recently at the age of 87. One of his dying wishes was for money, in lieu of flowers, to be donated to sport back in his home town. He specially remembered his days at West Hartlepool Grammar School for Boys were he learned his sport and, as a result, our development fund has benefited by £6,000. | |
 | Brother-in-law Stuart Pailor who is also vice-President of Burn Road Harriers, says: “John actually went on to become a football referee, and had very successful career in the steel industry before becoming a lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic. “But he never forgot his roots and his family and friends were delighted to honour one of his dying wishes.” West Chairman Peter Olsen said: "A great many of the older generation at West enjoyed the same experience at the Grammar School as John, and it is no surprise to us that he valued the experience all his life. "It was a tremendous gesture of John and his family to provide this legacy, which will be a great help to us in achieving our aim of providing new facilities for rugby and other sports." |
| John is survived by his wife Pym and children Amanda , Alison and Jonathan. The family are expected to scatter John’s ashes at the Blue Lagoon – another of his favourite boyhood haunts. | |

A fantastic gesture, for which the club will no doubt mark its appreciation in a way which will always be remembered when (not if, but when) the new clubhouse is built.
