The home side cruised to a 62-7 win courtesy of eight tries including some sharp running from a back division which included Tom Foden - brother of England’s Ben.  He spent  the past three seasons in the Championship.

West put up a fight throughout and enjoyed some good individual performances, but it was the collective power of a side put together for promotion which was dominant.

Worse for us were injuries to No 8 Stewart Grazier in the first half, and a serious knee injury to Stu Waites which could keep him out for some time.

Chester began the game aggressively and stored into a 15-0 lead  after 20 minutes with a penalty from fly half Rhys Hayes and tries from winger Peter Rhys and hooker Liam Gill.

West battled away but went further behind to tries from replacement Mike Craven and full back Sean Green.

It was 29-0 at half time but we started the second half the brightest with David Heckles going over for a try which Waites converted.

Sadly he injured his knee a few minutes later to be replaced by Zac Southern.

We had already lost Grazier before the break and while we reorganised the home side ran in two swift tries through Foden, who was playing at outside centre, and winger Pat Coy.

Wit the contest effectively over at 41-7 Chester took advantage to run in three more tries all converted by Rhys Hayes.

Not a good day it has to be said but not many sides will get the betetr of Chester this season on this form.
