Chester 48 West 3
Excellent game
The best news of the weekend is that there will almost certainly be more options for the coahces to choose from next week. Both the Cheslins should be available toegther with Jamie Connolly and Scott Jordan. Welcome news after another big defeat and mroe injuries.
Chester were the latest sides to accept the gifts offered by poor first up tackling and our inability to turn a fair shore of possession into points.
The bad luck continued before the kick off with Colin Cheslin crying off, because of work commitments, and Paul Moss deciding to start despite being obviously under the weather.
Then Tom Wilson was injured in the first minute. He limped through until half time when he was replaced by another youngster – Zac Southern.
By then we were 24-0 down.
Rhys Hayes got the scoreboard ticking on four minutes with a penalty and then winger Liam Lawton scored the first of his side’s seven tries after sprinting clear of the West defence.
Opposite winger Marcus Lyon followed suit on 20 minutes before bustling flanker Ross White got the first of his two on 26 minutes.
We did get the first score of the second half, with a Paul Moss penalty, but that was all we to show for the hard work of the forwards. Skipper Anth Carr led from the front, putting in tackle after tackle, but almost every time a West move broke down Chester seized on the opportunity to score.
Backs Marcus Lyon and Simon Verbickas got the next two before White completed his double. Scrum half James Farrell round things off in the 73rd minute,.
To add insult to injury referee Karl Kirkpatrick yellow carded second row Tom Dixon for the second time this season as the game drew to a close.
