We were short of attacking ideas and ball carriers. Horden stopped our attacks round the fringes with only one notable lapse when Mikey Young nipped in under the posts in the first half.

Paul Rudd had a couple of gallops, but the final ball went to ground, and when we tried to attack expansively more often than not we spilled the ball or passed it to the opposition.

Much of those mistakes were down to committed Horden defence. They knew this was a big chance to keep their survival hopes alive and full credit to them for a superb team performance.

Tom Dixon had a fine game in the pack and Martin Todd played well at inside centre after being drafted in at the last minute because of injury to Neil Howe.

Horden had the gale and the slope in the first half and used the boot to keep us in our 22. They scored two tries through Richard Thirkell and winger Ian Cox in the first 12 minutes and it looked like being a high scoring gam,e.

But we came back and Mikey got the try on 23 minutes which looked like providing an excellent platform for the second half. After a period of pressure he spotted a gap and raced through from 20 metres.

Horden came back but strong West defence kept them out until the dying minutes of the first half when prop Michael Thompson was driven over to make it 15-7 at the break.

We had most of the territory in the second half and kept the ball in hand,but Horden's back line was very swift in closing down space and, for once, the linkage between Youn and Tighe was put under pressure.

Wingers Painter and Lambert had a couple of runs but were forced into touch, and there was no sign of the rolling maul which has paid dividneds so often this season.

There's no doubt Anth Carr's speed and try scoring ability was missed. Carlo Robinson did come on to make a difference with some charging runs at the home defence but he only last ten minutes before having to go off with a rib injury.

Horden's fourth try was a typical forwards drive on 68 minutes finished off by Darren Greenlaw. Andrew Turner again missed the conversion which was perhaps the clearest indication of how strong trhe gale was, but in the end Horden didn't need a bigger buffer.

We hardly loooked like scoring even when Horden went down to 14 mean because of sin-bins.

With Driffield losing at Old Crossleyans this would have been a chance to keep our faint promotion hopes alive.
