Division 2

Sunday December 9th 2012

Hythe 3's suffered a 4 wkt defeat by Braishfield - in a game that went to the last over.

Jack KO won the toss and elected to bat first. Unknown to him the game would started with a band new ball which swung a mile from ball one. Hythe got off to a bad start - Gareth Mead hit the first ball for a 3 then next ball Guru was judged to have been caught behind off Hardy - much to the surprise of him and the gallery. Three wides and a no ball helped the score to 17-1 off 2 overs then Rob Saunders played a 2am Saturday night shot to be bowled by Hardy for 1. Alex Nicholas was the next to be bamboozled by the swing - out for 1 bowled by Hardy. At this point Hythe 18 for 3 and Super Kev was concerned about his recent new League record. Things could have been worse for Hythe as Gareth was dropped from a caught & bowled.

A 62 partnership then occured between Gareth Mead & JKO before Gareth retired on 27* after hitting a six & 2 fours. 80-3 with 3 overs to go - Kev McCarthy joined skipper Jack but I think someone forgot to tell Kev to take his bat and he swung and missed for the rest of the innings. Jack was out from the final ball of the innings for 13 - Hythe 98 for 4. Hythe's score helped by 43 in wides. Pick of the bowlers for Braishfield J.Hardy 3 overs 2 for 13.

A good start needed by Hythe with the ball but Alex Nicholas forgot to put on the sat nav as the first over went for 13 in wides. The Colonals next went for 6 - Braishfield 20-0 off 2. 'Turn the game Kev' we were all saying but he must have wanted to get home for xfactor as 16 came off the next over. Saunders next wasn't much better 19 off the over inc 14 in wides one almost hit the side wall. 54 for 0 after 4 and Romsey (next on) were ringing round their players expecting an early start.

JKO turned to spin and his own next over went for just 5 singles. The Guru called into action next - whose first ball spun off the mat. A decent over and with the final ball he got reward when he had Tatnall well caught behind by Gareth Mead for 11. Braishfield 67 for 1 off 6. B.Brown then had to retire 25* just as 7 came off JKO 7th over. Guru then bowled a 6 run 8th over and Braishfield were making hard work of it.

JKO finished with 0-18 off 3 when his third over went for just 7. Guru then bowled the over of the innings - just one off plus the wicket of Wilde well caught by Saunders for 7. Braishield 88 for 2 off 10 overs still needing 11 runs off 12 balls.

Kev Mc bowled the 11th over - a four off the first ball looked like it could be over quickly but he settled down for a 8 run over. Rob Saunders bowled the last over with Braishfield needing 3. Two dot balls made it interesting before Hardy hit the third for four. Hythe rooing they're 43 wides. So 1& 4 record for Hythe 3's before xmas - they'll need to improve from January to finish mid table.
