Hythe 3's vs Brockenhurst
| Youngsters Do The Business as Hythe 3's Earn Final Over Win |
First game on and it was Brockenhurst who batted first. They got off to a good start through Tilsby and Wickison - 33 coming off the first 3 overs . But the breakthrough came in the 4th when Kev McCarthy leapt like a gazelle to run out Tilsby for 11. Dickison retired at 25* but Green and Griffin continued the scoring. 68 for 1 off 6 but then Green was run out by McCarthy for 21. That was soon followed by Jones run out by Moore for 0 - Brock 77 for 3.
2x4's and a six by Griffin took the score to 104 before Page bowled Lock for 4. Wickison returned for the final 2 overs - he and Griffin 23* adding another 19 to finish the innings on 123 for 4. Wickison finishing on 37*. McCarthy Hythe's most economical bowler 0-25 off 3.
A par score for Hythe to chase but Skipper Huxter sprung a slight surprise by opening with himself and Alex Nicholas. Huxley started in big hitting mode - taking a six and 2x4's off Green's first over. Meanwhile young Nicholas was trying to follow suit without much success in his debut match. 26-0 after 2 Hythe then lost their skipper when Huxley was caught by Griffin off Green for 18. That brought Archie Gilbert to the crease and though the young pair kept their wicket in tact only 16 runs came off the next 3 overs. Hythe 49 for 1 off 6 needing another 75 off 6.
Nicholas got his game together smashing 2x6's & 2x4's before holing out to Wickison off Jones for 22. Hythe 88 for 2 off 9. Gilbert upped the pace to hit 2x6's & 1x4 before retiring on 25*. 2 overs remaining Hythe needed 19 - Moore hit a six before being bowled by Lock for 13. Nine needed off the final over. Page and McCarthy both hit 3's off the first two balls to put Hythe favourites but the third ball saw Page bowled by Green for 3.
Gilbert retuned to smash the 4th ball for a four and Hythe had won with two balls remaining. McCarthy finishing 4* and Gilbert 31*. This Hythe win guarantees the Green Caps a 2nd place finish with one to to go.
