Howe Heroics as Hythe Knock Out Holders

Hythe ended Paultons three seasons of Cup success this evening with a thrilling one wicket win at Priestlands. Matt Howe was the star of the show as he carried his bat for 65* - scoring the winning runs with a six on the penultimate ball.

Hythe skipper Tom Huxley won the toss and decided to put the cup holders into bat. Harry Smith struck early for the Geen Caps having Collins caught & bowled for 2. Ray and the dangerous O'Brien added 33 for the second wicket before Howe caught Ray off Smith for 1. O'Brien retired beofre the Pike's took the score to 94 when McCarthy bowled R.Pike for 17.

Soon after G.Pike was run out by Page for 11 which brought back O'Brien. He and Lamb 24* added 37 to take the score to 135 for 4 at the close. O'Brien finishing 29* - Kev McCarthy Hythe's most economical bowler 1 for 26 off 3 whilst there were two wickets for Harry Smith.

Hythe needed a good start but lost Smith for 0 with the score on 5. Matt Young and Matt Howe both played excellent knocks to retire at 25 but at 64 Hythe lost their 2nd wicket when Pgae was bowled by G.Pike for 8. Skipper Huxley soon followed - caught behind off Collins for 1 and then McCarthy was bowled by Pike for 2. Hythe 73 for 4 and still a lot to do. Young and Howe returned - Howe brought up an excellent fifty whilst the pair added 56 for the 5th wicket. At 129 Young was run out for 35. Howe left on his own with six to win in a tense finish. Two balls to go Howe finished it with a 6 and Hythe are into Finals Night on March 18th.

Excellent performance by Hythe in which everybody played their part.
