INDOOR CUP WIN FOR HYTHE Hythe beat Bransgore by 39 runs to set up a quarter-final tie with holders Paultons. Hythe playing a mixed side batted first scoring 145-4. Tom Huxley (left) top scored with 20 Jonjo Stovell 14. Hythe were helped by the Bransgore bolwers who gave away 77 extras. In reply the forest side made 116 all out

Hythe Through To Face Holders in Q-Finals


Hythe won through to the Quater-Finals of the New Forest Indoor Cup with a 29 run win over Bransgore.

Hythe elected to field a side made up of 3 first team and 3 third team players against Bransgore who were without A.Syrett.

Bransgore won the toss and put Hythe into bat. Jonjo Stovell and Tom Huxley put on 54 for the 1st wicket in 4 overs before Stovell was stumped off Baker for 14. Forty was then added for the second wicket but most of them came through the wide count. At the half way stage Hythe had moved onto 69 for 1. With the tempo needed to be upped Young was run out for 8 in the 8th over and two balls later Huxley was bowled by Baker for 20.

Hythe now 94 for 3 off 8. James Page and Harry Smith took the score to 120 before Page fell in the final over for 8. Smith finished 12* and Kev McCarthy 6* as Hythe ended 145 for 3. Bransgore contributed 76 of them in wides.

A good start was needed by the forest side - Smith unusually helped with 4 wides in his first over and Hythe gave away several over throws. By the end of the 3rd Bransgore had moved onto 35 for 0. The breakthourh came in the 4th when dangerman Binfield was run out by Page for 8. At the half way stage Bransgore 66 for 1. At 81 P.Butcher had to retire and soon (with the Fawley boys arriving for their game) McCarthy run out Wright for 1. McCarthy then caught & bowled Thomas for 7 and with 3 overs to go Bransgore were 100 for 3.

Smith run out Baker for 7 then had Donaldson stumped by Matt Young for 3. Butcher smashed Tom Huxley for a six but the Huxter had the last laugh when next ball Butcher holed out to Smith for 37 - Bransgore all out for 116 in 11.3 overs - Hythe win by 29 runs to face cup holders Paultons in the Quarter-Finals.
