TONY WOOD

(Woody)

WOODY 2

Chairman - 3rd XI Non Playing Captain - A Friend To Everyone

Its with great sadness I inform you about the sudden and tragic death of Hythe & Dibden's most loveable character - Chairman & 3rd XI Non playing Captain - Tony Wood just 44 years of age.

Our thoughts go out to his parents, brothers and other family members.

Tony died peacefully Friday afternoon after suffering a bleed on the brain stem.

During the past fifteen years no one at the club has lightened up our clubhouse - brightened up our tours - entertained the opposition (or the ladies) more than Woody has. As 3rd XI skipper he has made the transition for the Colts into Senior League Cricket fun and made them feel like adults.

All evening messages have been coming in from players who have played with Woody in the past and local clubs such is the love and affection for the man.

After Mike consulted Woodys parents - it was decided that the weekends games went  ahead as normal - which is what Woody would have wanted.

No one wanted the Firsts to survive in County 2 as much as Woody and also to see his best mate Mike Bowmans side strive for promotion out of South West 2. As for the 3rds it will always be Woodsys side and we know he'll be with us up at Thornberry.

God Bless a Great Person Who'll Be Missed By All That Knew Him

Our Chairman - Tony Wood

Over 500 people turned out to pay their respects to Woody at the Wessex Vale Crematorium - Four very specialt tributes were read out including one from Si Dixon for the Cricket Club. The others were from Oceaneering, The Modrapheniacs and Woodys brother for the family.

Well done too to the Lord Nelson who did a very good job in holding the wake.
