Brian & Terri Marwood - Club President - Tony Woodhouse, the reason that there is still a sports club running successfully in Hythe is all down to the dedication, hard work, methodically keeping of the finances and humour of this man, respected, honest, reliability, there are so many words that could be attributed to Tony but  he would only ever want people to remember him with a smile!!!

His sense of humour and and fun was always there, with his family, his colleagues his sporting cronies.  We Terri and myself have had the good fortune to have known Tony, Mary and his family for many years, i still don`t remember how he persuaded me to become president of the club, probably after one of our chats (which probably involved a consumption of alcohol) he was always good at suggesting things!!! How glad i am because we were always friends as well as committee members??

The many tributes to him are all of a similar vein, what a great man he was, always encouraging, always smilling, the suddeness of his leaving has left us all in shock none more so than his adored Mary, Janet, Lou, Karen and their families, our hearts go out to them but they must also feel very proud to have shared his life!!

We could go on and on in the tributes to Tony but we hope that on wednesday they take comfort in seeing how many other people will mourn with them about the gentleman Tony Woodhouse was! Sleep peacefully Tony, a life so very well lived!!!

Alan Wiltshire - No sports club will survive for long without considerable voluntary work - and for some 60 years Tony gave endless hours of his time for Hythe & Dibden as indeed his family did. For many years I worked alongside Tony on both committees and played football and cricket with him for Hythe. The cricket pavilion which replaced the old wooden shed was a commendable effort by several people which of course Tony played a big part.

The words of the poet are appropiate when he wrote - ' ask bot for whom the funeral bells tolls, it tolls for you' For club members his death is a great loss.

Mike Bowman 2nd XI Capt - 2003- Current - I was so very sad to hear about the loss of Tony, my condolences to Mary and the rest of Tony’s family. Having played with and against Tony for many years I have many fond memories of him. Winning a game at Enichem with the bat  in his late 60’s from a hopeless position and bemusing a very strong Bournemouth side with his canny bowling whilst the rest of us disappeared to all parts are just a few I could have mentioned.

What else can you say about Tony, the original ‘One Club Man’. He was universally respected by the eldest to the youngest players/members because of his achievements both on and off the field for Hythe and Dibden Cricket Club. Tony’s enthusiasm and dedication was infectious for all things Hythe and Dibden. Only last season he was telling me to watch this lad or you should have this one playing in the 2’s.

Thank you Tony for leaving us this wonderful club – it is now up to us to keep it going as your legacy. Ladies and gentleman please raise your glasses and toast the memory of Tony Woodhouse.

Stuart Price - Now living in Australia - Just saw the unfortunate news on the website, please pass on my condolences to Mary and the family.  I know the word has been used a few times but he was an absolute legend who probably held every single position in the club over the years.  I'm sure Hythe & Dibden wouldn't have been in the position it was today but for all the work and time that Tony has put in over that sixty year period.

I remember playing with him at the end of his career in the cricket team but he could still take amazing slips catches, bamboozle the batsmen with his loopy spinners and smack the odd ball to the boundary when he was batting.  However, he soon put me in my place when I tried to run a quick three with him one day!  I'm sure he will be sorely missed.

Ian Bowman - Chairman Beaulieu Cricket Club -  Mike has just told me the sad news about Tony's passing. I would like to extend my personal condolences and those of Beaulieu C C to his famlly and to all the Hythe & Dibden cricket community.  Tony was the soul of your club and typified the loyalty and dedication that keeps cricket clubs going all over the country.
I played against him on many occasions for EniChem and Beaulieu and he nearly always got me out - I could never come to terms with those cleverly flighted deliveries.  Despite this I had the greatest respect and fondness for Tony. He will be sadly missed.

Martin Anderson - Very sad news about Tony. He will be much missed.

Tony was a much loved and hugely respected member of Hythe and Dibden for such a long time. Either playing, captaining, officiating or administrating, Tony was an inspiration to us all through his own high standards and his sporting and fair approach to football and cricket. The values I have taken with me into sport and life were learned from watching and playing with Tony and he was and always will be an ambassador for how sport should be played and officiated.

Though Tony has passed on, his methods and manners will remain with us as the next generation of players and officials, inspired by his lead, strive to instil his principles for the future of sport.
