Steve Chiv - It's a sad day for our Sports Club. I first played cricket alongside Tony as a 12 year old. I'd gone from scoreboard attendant to scorer to being asked to play (because we were short) in 4 weeks. I was wetting myself as we were 7 down and I was told to pad up. With no kit and wearing Alan Witshire's spare trousers held up with a belt Tony lent me his pads and gloves. Putting the pads on was ok but gloves it was 50's style put four fingers in and wrap the elastic around twice before you put the thumb pad on. I didn't have a clue - Tony words 'you've nicked my number 11 spot - so don't worry I don't wear them much either'.

I can't put into words how much i'll miss Tony - his enthusiasm and passion for our club. I hope in the future we can keep his memory going.

Forget Hussain and Botham as critics we now have two legends looking down on us each week at Jones Lane ~ Woodhouse and Pick.

Simon Dixon - Club Captain 2005-2010 - So sad to hear the news about Tony, please pass my condolences to Mary and the rest of Tony’s family.  It was a pleasure playing with him, knowing him and being in his company.  He was so supportive of all the young players coming through, and was always there watching with a smile on his face when his playing days finished.  He was simply a lovely bloke.   I honestly do not think it is an exaggeration to say that if it wasn’t for Tony, we wouldn’t have a cricket club.  Its up to the current players, and the colts coming through, to do his memory justice by not only trying their best but doing it with a smile on their face.  Its what he would want.  We shall miss you Tone.

Sean Tongs - Tony will be sadly missed, nobody believed in the club more than him. A very sad day

Councillor Brian Dash - Tony Woodhouse will be a sad loss to our Community.  Tony’s dedication to cricket over so many years was part of the fabric of our community.  He played and umpired with obvious relish and, perhaps most importantly, he inspired generations of youngsters to enjoy the game, to become proficient and play in the right spirit.

I will miss the sight of Tony from over my garden fence because he was one of those who made me feel lucky to live in Hythe

John Church Fawley CC Chairman -  have just been told by Kev Mac that Tony Woodhouse has passed away. On behalf of Fawley CC I would like to send our condolences to Mary, the rest of his family and all his friends at Hythe. Tony Woodhouse was Hythe and Dibden to me when I played as a kid. He was my first Sunday and then Saturday captain. He always looked out for the younger players and was a true gent who always played cricket the way it should be played. We will have to make sure that over the coming years the Woodhouse trophy keeps going and as long as I am chairman at Fawley we will continue to support it. Very sad news.

John Clarke - Thanks for letting me know this very sad news. Like you I have known Tony for over 35 years, and always found him to be a gentlemen as well as a pillar of the Hythe and Dibden Sports club community.

Please pass on my condoleneces to Mary, Karen and the rest of the family, I am sure that they are all finding it very difficult at the moment. If I had one thing to say about Tony it would be

Tony Woodhouse:= One Hell of a Gentlemen One Hell of an innngs, .

Pete Stannett - I'm very sorry to read about Tony.  He was a really nice person. I will miss our chats on the far boundary at home games.

Ewan Bell - I was privileged to play alongside Tony for a few years in the late Nineties when we were both part of Northy's successful Sunday side. My fondest memory was of Tony (as the oldest player in our side), and me (as the youngest), bowling our spin in tandem on those seemingly always baking hot summer afternoons at Jones Lane.  A true Hythe & Dibden legend; he will be missed by all that knew him.

Anne Craft  -HCL-   Please pass on my condolensces - I was very fond of Tony when I was Secretary at Hythe. He will be SO missed - what a great guy and true gentleman.

Russell Moore - R.I.P Tony Woodhouse. So proud we won his trophy the last time before he passed away. A true Hythe legend.

Mike Edwards - A true gentleman in every way. The Clubs gonna be a lesser place for his passing. He was so proud of the progression the youngsters of the club made each year. I hope they remember his committment and keep his spirit alive. The youngsters are the embodiment of all he worked for all those years.

Sue Froggett - On behalf of Richard, myself and all the colts who passed through Hythe & Dibden over the years please pass our condolences to Mary and the rest of the family. The amount of support and help he has given over the years could never be properly recognised, he was really a lovely man and a true gentleman, nothing was ever too much trouble.

Summer won't be the same without his car parked up beyond the boundary with Tony peering through his binoculars and giving those whose eyesight wasn't good an update on the score. We will really miss him.

Garth Thomas - HCL- Very sad news about Tony - He was one of the nicest people that I knew, having first played against him in 1956 and then with him when I joined Hythe in 1958. He was an all round sportsman, a good and loyal Club Cricketer and a very good footballer.

Sway Cricket Club   - It is with great sadness we learnt that Hythe sporting legend Tony Woodhouse has passed away. Legend is often a word used too lightly but in this case it was more than appropriate. To the  younger generation at Sway CC his name is of course linked to the Tony Woodhouse Trophy, a tournament giving youngsters a taste of the adult game - an appropriate legacy that Tony was no doubt proud of.

Sway Cricket Club would like to express their sympathy to Tony's wife, family and all his many friends in New Forest cricket.

Dave Ryan - Sad to hear the news about Tony.  I remember him as one of those blokes who are the fabric of the club - doing the little things that many people might not notice but make such a difference to keeping a club running.

please pass on our sympathies to his family - Dave & Janelle from Australia

Rob Parsons - Merlin Cricket Club - Sad news indeed -we at Merlin mourn your sad loss of a fine club man indeed, please pass on my clubs condolences to the next of kin, friends and family.

We are fully aware of sudden losses connected with a club stalwart as we have had are fair share not long ago too. Remember him well plant willow tree or something never let them be forgotten.

Andy Burgess -Hamble ASSC - It is with sadness that i heard of Mr Woodhouse passing away. He was the kind of person that all amateur clubs would like, though few ever have. A club man through and through and a true gent. He was very kind when my dad, Norman , passed away. I know the letter mum received from the club by his hand meant an awful lot. I still remember my time with the colts, and occasional sunday 2nds games, with great pleasure. Hythe and Dibden started me on my lifelong love of the game, and Tony was a huge part of that.

I'll pass the news on to mum and my brothers (both of them also played at hythe football and cricket)

Andrew Woods
- I only met Tony Woodhouse on a couple of occasions and found him to be a true gentleman and extremely helpful. He will be sorely missed by all at the club and my thoughts go to his family at this time. I hope that the fixtures towards the Tony Woodhouse Trophy this year and for every year onwards prove a true testament  to his memory and to his many years for his service with Hythe and Dibden.
