AMPFIELD 2nd XI vs HYTHE 3rd XI

SUPER MAC LATE STRIKES UPSET 100% AMPFIELD AS HYTHE WIN BY 6 RUNS

Kev McCARTHY 4-17

What a difference 7 days make as a first class fielding performance by the Green Caps protected a 156 score and gave them a 6 run win over previously unbeaten Ampfield. Needing 7 off the last over Kev McCarthy bowled a wicket maiden to secure the win - this despite having to make late changes - losing Ewan Bell and minus skipper Tony North, Mike Graham and Josh Mead for the game.

On a hot afternoon stand in skipper Ian Prentice won the toss and elected to bat first on a very dry wicket.Hythe opened with Zac Millar and Jonjo Stovell with the instruction to bat the whole 42 overs and tire out thye opposition. Sadly Stovell ignored the instruction and was bowled by J.Smith for 5. Three overs later and Mr Runs - Tom Richards was back in the hut - caught by a very good catch off Barnes for 8. Hythe 23 for 2 off 6.

Zac Millar and Sam Mead then stuck in - adding 42 off 10 overs before Mead was bowled by Divakaran for 31. At the half way stage - Hythe 72 for 3. Millar palyed sensibly for 28 before being bowled by Divakaran and in the same over Quinnell was bowled for 19. Hythe 103 for 5 off 27 overs.

Ian Prentice hit the innings only 6 before being out for 6 and Chairman Tony Wood was bowled by Divakaran for 4 as Hythe looked to be heading for a low score. Through Tim Bath 11 and Steve Chiverton 18 they climbed above the 150 mark and when Luke Blackwell was out for 2 Hythe were 156 all out in 35.3 overs.

Hythe needed a good start in defending a lowish score and Luke Blackwell gave them that when he had Simmons LBW for 9 with the score on 11. A 50 run partnership then occured resulting in Prentice changing the bowling to himself and Chiverton. Henderson finally went caught by Quinnell off Chiverton for 30 - Ampfield 61 for 2 off 17 overs. The game changed when at 85 Tim Bath run out Rahamn for 13 and soon after Langridge was brilliantly run out by the impressive Sam Mead for 14. - 90 for 4 off 27 overs.

Four runs later Chiverton bowled Smith for 4 and at 94 for 5 Hythe began to believe. Chiverton finished his spell of 10 overs 2 for 23 and Prentice 0 for -31 off 10. The skipper then had a tough decision with 14 overs to go - who to bring on - he chose Tim Bath and Tom Richards. At 130 for 5 and 27 needed things seemed to be going against the green caps but Prentice brought back McCarthy inplace of Bath and first ball super kev bowled Jenkins for 22. In His next over McCarthy struck again bowling Stokes for 3 - Ampfield 144 for 7 needing 13 off 2.2.

Richards gave away just 4 off the penultimate over leaving Ampfield needing 7 to win off the last. Second ball Zac Millar with some luck stumped P.Barnes for 1 after the ball bounced off his pads onto the stumps giving McCarthy his third wicket and on the fourth ball he had Fry LBW for 0. Nine down - 2balls remaining and 7 needed - good stuff. The next two balls becasme dots and Hythe had won by 6 runs. McCarthy finishing with 4-17 off 8

Well done to all the Hythe lads especially to Sam Mead who certainly stopped 15 plus runs at cover and to the skipper
