HYTHE 3rd XI vs BTC SOUTHAMPTON

Saturday 19th June

ITS FIVE WINS ON A SPIN THANKS TO STOVELL & RICHARDS

Tom RICHARDS 79	Jonjo STOVELL 64
167 - 3rd Wicket Partnership

Hythe 3rd XI continued their winning run thanks to 167 - 3rd wicket partnership from Tom Richards (79) and Jonjo Stovell (64) Hythe then slumped to 213 all out but BTC could only muster 104 in reply with Kev McCarthy taking 3-24. 5-0 now but Saturdays big game with Sway will be a different test.

Another good wicket with a lots of variety greeted the green caps as skipper Tony North elected to bat first. Zac Millar failed to arrive early enough to open the innings so Northy was partnered by Jonjo Stovell. 2 overs in and the ever reliable North was heading back to the pavilion caught off the glove for 2.

That bropught Tom Richards to the crease to join his good mate. The pair then set about the BTC bowling. At 10 overs Hythe had moved onto 39 for 1 and at drinks 138 for 1. Richards brought up his fifty first with a six followed by Stovell who rode his luck being dropped nine times. At 25 overs Hythe had moved onto 163 for 1 and the partnership to 167. The introduction of Thomas however reeped rewards for the opposition. Stovell was finally out caught for 69 and innings which included 4x4's & 2x6's.

Richards then fell for 79 caught by Gray off Thomas. Richards innings included 4x4's & 4x6's - Hythe 172 for 3 off 28 overs. Sadly the rest of the innings just folded only Josh Mead (14) got into double figures and Hythe were shot out for 213 with 10 ball s remaining.

Northy opened the bowling with Luke Blackwell and Kev McCarthy. With the score on 9 Hythe claimed their first wicket when D.McCarthy was well caught by Sam Mead off Blackwell for 2. Blackwell claimed another when Hillier was caught behind by North 2. BTC 19 for 2.

Blackwell finished a fine spell after 6 overs with shin splints 2-15 off 6. Josh Mead replaced and at 32 he took a blinding caught & bowled to get rid of D.Collier. McCarthy then had D.Jones caught by Richards for 0 and when he then had B.Collier caught by Sam Mead for 14 - BTC were struggling at 43 for 5.

McCarthy claimed his third wicket - having A.Thomas stumped by North 1 and Josh Mead had Gray caught by Zac Millar for 1 - BTC 54 for 7. McCarthy finished his 10 over spell with a fine 3-24. Chiverton got in on the act having Dawkins caught by Josh Mead for 17.

One wicket to get but the last pair held out and played some very good shots. They put on 36 before a run out by Tom Richards on T.Semple for 28 ended proceedings at 104 all out.

Hythe had won but everyone will have to raise their game next week especially with Kev McCarthy unavailable.

As for BTC lets hope they keep going. Take away the 3rd wicket partnership and Hythe would have been in real trouble. Their bowling certainly improved in the latter stages.
