Hampshire League County 2
HYTHE XI vs IDLERS (Salisbury)
Saturday 12th June
WOEFUL HYTHE LONGWAY OFF EXPECTATIONS
Kev JAMES - 13
Hythe put in a woeful batting display against league leaders Idlers who we have to say are probably the best team we have seen at Hythe for several years.
Idlers batted first scoring 255 for 8. Hythe in reply made a sad 65 all out.
Idlers won the toss and elected to bat first. The new ball swung around as the Hythe bowlers contained to begin with. Only 39 coming off the first 15 overs. Adriaan de Jagers first 7 over spell going for just 9 runs and Richie Froggetts first 7 overs 18. The Wiltshire run machine J.Cranch then upped the pace with 16 going off Froggetts next over. At drinks Idlers had moved onto 99 for 0 off 23.
Two overs later Hythe did get a breakthrough when Ben Smith had Ince caught by Page for 25. Two runs later and Saunders had Cranch L.B.W thanks to trigger Trev for 73. Idlers 106 for 2 off 26. Two wickets then fell at 124 when Smith had Myhott caught by Wright for 7 and Shepherd was caught behind by Kev James off Saunders for 0.
Were Hythe getting on top - No - a 103 - 5th wicket partnership between Harms (54) and McIllop (57) in just 9 overs took the game away from Hythe. Matt Howe came on and staked a claim for a regular bowling spot - taking 2-14 as Idlers finished on 255 for 8
In reply Hythe got off to a shocker and never recovered. By the 5th over they had lost Rob James, Matt Howe, Richie Froggett and Adriaan de Jager - 19 for 4 and by 10 overs 28 for 6. Kev James 13, Tom Porter 12 and James Page did show some resistance but 5 LBW's and some excellent catching reduced the green caps to 65 all out in just 23.4 overs. N.Lawrence finished with 5-33 and M.Clements 4-28
