HYTHE 3rd XI vs OTTERBOURNE 3rd XI

Saturday 5th June

No Shock Here As Richi In a Hurry

Tom RICHARDS 58*

Hythe 3rd XI made it 4 league wins in 4 with a resounding 9 wkt win at the hands of Otterbourne.

Skipper Tony North ignored the requests to bat first allowing the bowlers to bowl the visitors out for 119. In reply Hythe got home with 19 overs left. Tony North 38* and Tom Richards 58* sharing in a 2nd wkt stand of 109.

Hythe won the toss and no need to tell you the rest with Northy skipper. Hythe took to the field with 4 changes from last time out. Richard Jones made his senior debut at 14 years old, Gareth Mead, Ian Prentice and Tom Huxley came in.

Ex Green Cap Martin Anderson captained the Otters and opened the batting. Luke Blackwell and Kev McCarthy were given the ball and reduced the Otters to 24 off the first 8 overs - once again Blackwell bowling without any luck. In the 9th over finally Blackwell's first league wicket - bowling Anderson for 7. McCarthy then had Fingsworth caught behind by Tony North for 4 - Otterbourne 38 for 2. Proctor and Powell then added 29 before McCarthy got a second wicket in his final over - bowling Powell for 12.

Drinks - Otterbourne 77 for 3 . Ian Prentice replaced Blackwell (1-81 off 7). McCarthy finished another fine spell 2-35 off 10 to be replaced by Chiverton and in his second over he had the dangerous Proctor well caught by Sam Mead for 39. Prentice then bowled Frampton (3) and Musson (2) in quick succession and when Chiverton bowled Anderson jnr for 0 the Otters were 100 for 7. Four runs later Prentice bowled McDonald for 1 and Chiverton snapped up the final two wickets - a fine catch by Prentice to remove Docking for 4 and a North stumping to remove Goodall for 0 - Otterbourne 119 all out. A good two hours work from all the Hythe bowlers.

Hythe opened with Tony North and young Richard Jones who smashed his first scoring shot to the boundary for 4. Unfortunately the next he edged and was caught off McDonald for 4. The bowling you have to say was eratic from McDonald though young Docking at the other end looked very useful. Hythe moved onto 45 for 1 at 10 overs and at drinks 108 for 1. North was given a lifeline at 25 thanks to a drop by ex Hythe stalwart Anderson but that was as good as it got for the Otters. Richards brought up another fine fifty with a six and one over later North 36* and Tom Richards 58* had seen Hythe to a comprehensive win with 19 overs remaining and 24 points

North's 38* inc 7x4's and Richards 58* - 6x4's & 3x6's..
