HYTHE 3rd XI vs TROJANS IV
Saturday 22nd May
NORTH & LAST SEAL A HYTHE 3rd XI WIN
Richard LAST 54* & 3-39
Hythe 3rd XI pulled off their third league win in a row thanks to an inspired performance from Richard Last and a gutsy batting display from skipper Tony North. Hythe chasing 155 to win were made to work hard for their win by an energetic young Trojans side.
On a lovely day at Thornberry Avenue Hythe skipper Tony North won the toss and elected to field first. Without Luke Blackwell it was Jonjo Stovell who pestered Northy enough to get the new ball along with Richard Last. Trojans skipper showed his experience smashing Stovell for 2x4's in his first 3 overs but Last was proving harder to get away. North made a change in the 7th over bringing on McCarthy for Stovell. At 10 over Trojans had moved onto 28 for 0. In the 11th Last got the breakthrough when Harry Smith made an excellent one handed catch in the slips to get rid of Hyland for 2. Two overs later and Hodder was caught by North off Last for 2 - Trojans 35 for 2.
Last then picked up his third wicket when he bowled Broomfield for 2. Kev McCarthy then got in on the act having Stevenson caught by Last for 2 - Trojans 60 for 4 off 19. But skipper Hill was still there and looking menacing. Last finished his 10 overs 3-39 to be replaced by Chiverton. A 58 run partnership for the 5th wicket occured to frustrate the green caps before Hill was finally out for a very good 80 - bowled by Josh Mead who smashed the stump in half in the process. L.Kerr 33 and A.Broomfield then added 37 in 5 overs to take the score over the 150 mark before Kerr was well caught in the deep by Josh Mead off Stovell. Trojans ending their innings on 154 for 6.
For the second week running the green caps got off to a good start through Tony North & Zac Millar. The pair put on 43 in 10 overs before Millar was out caught off Boddington for 6. Last weeks hero Harry Smith swanked confidently to the wicket only to be caught off Boddington 2 balls later for a duck. Tom Richards was then bowled by the impressive Boddington for 1 and when another of last weeks heros - Sam Mead - played a shot he won't want to remember and was out for 0 Hythe were struggling at 59 for 4.
North continued to play sensibly knocking off the quick singles. Last started as 'The Fonz' only knows how - with a 4. The pair added 60 in 10 overs before North was out caught behind off the returning Gibbons for 50 who suddenly wored out how to swing a ball. Hythe 117 for 5. Last cut loose with a couple of boundaries and put on 22 with Jonjo Stovell before Stovell was given out LBW for 2 off Gibbons. Last reached a creditable fifty before Josh Mead was 7th man out for 2 with the score at 150. Next over Chiverton hit the winning boundary and Hythe had won a close match by 3 wkts. Richard Last finishing on 54 not out inc 9x4's.
A good win for the green caps but they will have to field and bat better in their next game against Sarisbury's academy side to get anything from the game.
