HYTHE UNDER 13'S vs ELLINGHAM
20th May @ Jones Lane
Two Wins In Two From Hythe Under 13’s In Another Close Game
 | |
| Sam LONG 3-14 | Sam KELLY 3-9 |
Hythe Under 13's made it two wins in two as they beat Ellingham in a close game at Jones Lane. Sam Kelly 3-9 and Sam Long 3-14 were the key destroyers as they reduced Ellingham to 74-9 chasing 83 -4.
On a bright sunny evening it was decided to play 16 overs due to the potential lack of light when Ellingham were to bat second.
Elliot Carley and Ali Bryers opened the batting, both scoring quickly and both hitting a couple of good fours. They put on a partnership of 39 for 1 off 7 overs, both top scoring with 18 runs. Sam Long hit a good 4 only to be out LBW on the following ball. Tom Copley batted steadily (5 N.O.) and Jordan got off the mark with a well driven 4. Alex and Tom batted the 3 remaining overs out with some good running on the last over scoring 11 runs, Alex 13 not out off 12 balls with the final score 83 for 4 off 16 overs.
With a reasonable score to defend Hythe started badly with 5 extras coming off the first over. Sam Long took the opener, LBW at 8 for 1 in the third. Ellingham then put on 38 for the second wicket, J. Lillis top scoring on 25 with the green caps dropping 3 catches and missing a couple of run outs.
With the scores pretty even after the eighth over we started to get it together with some excellent fielding and backing up. Sam Kelly taking a caught and bowled in his first over then a direct hit for a run out in the next over. Then on Sam Kelly’s second over he clean bowled one and had one caught in the field. Ellingham now on 56 for 5 off 10 overs and the match looking tight Sam Long came on to bowl his fourth over and took wickets on his second and third ball both clean bowled. The team were willing him on to a hatrick but unfortunately it was not to be.
Ellingham required 19 off the last 2 overs, Elliot took a wicket in the penultimate over and Harrison finished off the innings keeping the last over down to 7 runs and the green caps winning by 9 runs.
Two wins out of two, looking forward to the cup match v Farley at home on Monday 24th. Well done to all the team
