(Friendly)
Saturday 1st May
WEATHER FOILS YOUNG'S CHASE FOR FIRST TON
Hythe 2nd XI 's opening friendy of the new season was abandoned at tea as the heavens opened to leave the Roundhills Ground saturated.
With Hythe's innings just 3 overs short of completion - Matt Young was stranded on 86 not out and left wondering if he could have made it to three figures.
After a late start Hythe won the toss and elected to bat first - much to the disappointment of the hosts.
Sean Tongs opened with Matt Young and the guru wasted no time in showing his intentions as he smashed 3x4's in the first over. But in the 5th over Tongs was caught for 13 - Hythe 19 for 1. Wayne Effeny got himself in but was then judged LBW for 22. Hythe 63 for 2 which moved onto 75 for 2 at the half way stage.
Tom Porter and Matt Young added 51 for the third wicket before Porter was caught off Whitcher for 10. Young brought up his fifty then Hythe had a slight wobble as Bowman (10), Mills (9) and Bell (2) all fell cheaply. Gary Howe smashed 3x4's before being caught off Hart for 14 and then the rain came leaving Hythe 181 for 7 and Matt Young 86 not out inc 7x4's & 4x6's.
