COOMBE BISSETT vs HYTHE XI
Sunday 25th April
Punchey Stars As Hythe Win In The Gloom At Coombe Bissett.

Luke MILLS 45*
On a cold afternoon at Shutts Lane the Hythe Sunday XI opened their campaign with a 5 wicket victory over Coombe Bissett.
Chasing 147 for victory Hythe slumped to 81 for 5 before an unbeaten 6th wicket partnership of 67 between Matt Young 24* and Luke Mills 45* sealed the win with 22 balls remaining.
Stand in skipper Tom Huxley won the toss and chose to insert the homeside into bat. Hythe opened the bowling with Russell Moore and Jonjo Stovell. Both started brightley and just 18 runs came off the first 7 overs. At 23 Hythe claimed the first wicket when the dangerous M.Newman was well caught by Tongs off a poor ball from Stovell for 6. 2 overs later and Moore clean bowled Jeffrey for 10. Stovell then bowled Button for 6 and the homeside were struggling at 41 for 3. That got even worse as Wallce was bowled by Luke Mills for 5 and Hodgkinson was run out by a direct thow from Tom Richards for 1. When Matt Young stumped A.Martin & M.Erviney in quick succession off Mills Coombe were reeling at 68 for 7.
C.R.Johnson and N.Bird then dug in to give the score more respectability. They added 51 before Johnson was out caught by Tongs off Tom Porter for 54. Grindary was then bowled by Rob Saunders for 1 but Bird 27* held firm and took the score to 146 for 9 at the close.
Hythe's run chase started brightley with Sam Mead in a hurry. Dropped twice in the covers he eventually fell for a quick 17 with the score on 34. Matt Howe came in to join Tongs at the crease but was soon walking off again thanks to a heavy shower. Play resumed after 20 minutes but at 50 Hythe lost their second wicket when Howe was bowled by Button for 16. Tongs followed straight after LBW Newmab for 12. When Porter was LBW to Button for 0 Hythe were struggling at 51 for 4.
Matt Young and Tom Richards played sensibly and took the score to 81 off 26 overs before Richards lost his head and was bowled for 25. That brought Luke Mills to the crease and the pair brought up the 100 in the 30th over. With Young batting the anchor role it was Mills who started to set the pace hitting 45* including 4x4's and 1x6 to take Hythe to victory with 22 balls remaining. Matt Young finished on a very good 24*.
Well done to the Huxter in his first game as skipper - great start to the new season on a cold afternoon / evening in South Wiltshire.

QUOTE OF THE DAY :
Needing 75 to win in 18 overs - Matt Young said ' It's only 3 an over and we've won' No you haven't I said you've lost
Rob Saunders to Jonjo - 'Go easy on this young lady Jonjo' - which was of course a man.
