HYTHE & DIBDEN LEGENDS

Brian BUCK

Played for Hythe between 1970 - 1983

- Batsman / Wicket Keeper

- Scored Over 7000 Runs

- Scored 3 League Tons For Hythe with a Best 107 vs Alton

- Scored 4 Friendly Tons For Hythe With a Best 144* vs Burley

What a shame that this guy missed several seasons with moving away with his work committments.

Phil Pick described as one of the finest batsman to have played for the club - coming in at 3 or 4 he could rip through a bowling attack.

Brain Buck scored over 7,000 runs for the club scoring 7 centuries for the club including a best was 144* Vs Burley in 1970 - a season in which he scored 860 runs from 22 innings.

In 1971 he was at it again scoring 104* vs Basingstoke Social Club and 104 vs Andover - what a shame league cricket wasn't introduced until two years later.

After time away Brian returned and played in the 1976 Sydney Wyatt Cup winning side as a batsman.

During the 1977 season he hit another ton 107 vs Alton

The 1980 season saw Brian available for just 3 league games so Picky forced him into the 2nd string. He cracked 106* vs Hyde II -an innings which included 17 fours and 2 sixes. The two other games he scored 53 and 58 and averaging 108.50. He also scored 109* in a friendly vs Trojans.

After more time away in 1982 he turned out for Phil Pick's Second XI vs Lymington and cracked a match winning 105*

As well as his prolific batting Brian was also a very good wicket keeper.

Brian Buck's availabilty for Hythe was very limited but when he did play he was a joy to watch bat - 7 centuries what an achievement - imagine what it could have been
