..there were no goal kicks which was a shame as its an area we could have problems with.
West were without Jamie Connolly, who is recovering from a minor cartilage op, and Henry Tones who has strained his knee ligaments.
We had Frankie Coulson "guesting" on the left wing and looking more than impressive with Andrew Hare looking almost as pacy and dangerous on the other.
Stabs was at fly half with Mark Thompson and Allan Milne outside him. Both suffered injuries last year but looked fit and eager .. sometimes too eager with a number of wayward passes which would be punished in North One.
In the pack Chocky and Brett Cullinane were on fine form. New locks White and Parker both had a spell and looked the part.
On the sidelines forward coach John Painter and skippper Jamie Connolly both brandished notebooks and looked like they meant business as they scribbled away ... all part of the new management team which Stabs has put in place.
We scored first half tries through the lively Davy Tighe, Frankie Coulson and Darren Thomas against one from Foreman [don't ask me which one but it wasn't Andrew who came on as a guest full back for Old Boys].
In the second half Chocky, Thommo, Carlo and Nick Parker all went over.
Those were the pluses. The negatives were the way that we were pushed around by the home pack and those wayward passes from the backs. Still its early days.
