With the Firsts having a chance to take it easy [and reflect on last week's defeat at Morpeth] it is a chance for the coaches to have a look at a number of Colts and Stags players in competitive action.
None of the Colts will feature in the Horden game, for obvious reasons, and neither will any of the Ams as they have a home league game against Seaton [kick off 2.15].
One first team regular who could feature is Anth Carr who may get a run-out in the unaccustomed role of hooker. The unlucky Phil Butler is now able to play after his concussion, but has had a minor operation on his hand and is almost certain to be unavailable.
The Stags back row will be intriguing. Chris Young, Henry Tones and Paul Oliver may not form the tallest, or heaviest, back row but few will be able to match them for tenacity and energy.
In the second row Anth Williams should be packing down alongside Dave Garside with Chummer and Ryan Phillips at prop.
Young Chris Martin retains the 10 shirt despite Phil Wallis's availability. Chris was on the bench for the firsts at Percy Park, and would have got a run-out if we hadn't let the home side back into the game in the closing stages. Wallis has been impressing in training in recent weeks but will have to be content with showing his talents at inside centre alongside the versatile Colin Cheslin.
The back three looks strong with Masshedar at full back and Andrew Hare and Danny Weegram starting on the wings.
Not surprisingly Dave Stubbs has taken an interest in this week's selection as it gives him his first real chance to see the Stags.
He'll take a similar interest in the Colts game on Sunday. Chester provide a fair number of lads to the very good Cheshire County side so Tom Dixon, Aaaron Myers, Chris Lambert and Co will need to be at their best. Last week they pulled off a hard fought win over league rivals Moortown despite trailing with 15 minutes to go.
The Colts have been training with the Firsts and Stubbs is excited by the talent coming through: "There is no doubt that there are some skillful players coming through in both the Stags and the Colts. "But what I have found is that they need to focus more and think about their game and apply themselves in the right way.
