Paul Moss also gave the best display of goal kicking seen at Brinkburn all season .. when he did he miss he hit either the bar or the post.

It took the Stags only two minutes to get on the scoresheet. Full back Martin Boatman going in at the corner after a great backs move which saw Chris Young draw the cover and send his man in.

Lively scrum half Colin Cheslin was next to cross, again after good work by Chris Young, after Phil Gilbraith had made a break from the base of the scrum. One minute later and we were 19-0 up. This time Chris Martin chased down an up and under forcing the Ath defence to concede a line out ten metres out. Phil Butler picked out Ryan Phillips at the front of the line and the prop had no problem in breaking a tackle and scoring. Moss slotted the conversion from the right hand touchline.

Andrew Hare, who qualified by playing for the Stags at the beginning of the season, was a late call up for Tommy Barff who arrived late and Andy Cheslin who was working. "Panda" got himself into the game on 22 minutes finishing off another slick move along the backs, and then he got a second on 26 minutes in similar fashion to make the score 31-0.

Ath [watched by the Fez wearing touring side they were playing immediately afterwards!] never gave up and got a good forwards try on 28 minutes with a prop finishing off a series of forward drives.

The Stags came stright back with both Gilbraith and Butler coming close as the forwads picked and drove their way to Ath line. Unfortunately for Gilbraith he was injured while trying to score and was replaced by Steve Clayton.

Moss added a penalty to make it 34-5 at the break with Barff replacing Hare and Paul Oliver coming on for the excellent Dan Boatman who had also picked up an injury.

The second half was a little quieter, although Tommy Barff looked dangerous whenever the ball went out wide. He was hauled down twice on the line but managed to set up Cheslin on 52 minutes and then Will Richardson on 60.

Tommy should have had the try he deserved but a final pass from Clayton was forward.

But then came that icing on the cake against Ath's much fancied pack - and a well deserved try for the skipper. Phil Butler took the ball against the head from a scrum five metres out and the forwards drove over the line for Edwards to touch down.
