Cold Hits Derby Day Plans

It looks like the pack will be unchanged for the vital league game against Rovers at Brinkburn [kick off 2.15] but the backs won't be selected until lunchtime. Martin Todd is the biggest doubt after missing training with a bad cold and Andrew Hare has been nursing a back injury all week.

Chris Lambert, who scored two exceptional tries for the Under 17's in their top of the table win at Dinnington last week, is standing by and so is Alec Barker on his return to the club from University.

Alec returned to the town a little heavier than when he last played for a West side and announced he was a back row. Since Xmas he's returned to training and has been doing well in his old position of centre, so he'll at least be on the first team bench and could come on in either position. Gez and Phil Henderson are also likely to be replacements.

It promises to be another close fought encounter against two sides who get on better with each other than many of their supporters. Rovers have strangely convinced themselves that they should have won at the Friarage, but there is no doubt that a bit more thought could have turned second half pressure into points on Boxing Day.

Looking at the League table we would probably have settled for two league wins and a Boxing Day loss. Two points are very much needed as we try to create some distance between ourselves and Sandal, Redcar and Stockton.

Rovers have surged up the league since the arrival of Andy Foreman. He has given his teammates confidence as well as rattling up the tries himself. They probbaly need just two ponts to gaurantee safety and, after some impressive wins in recent weeks, they should have little trouble in achieving that. Let's hope they have to wait a little longer to celebrate. They also name a squad

West: Cullinane, Carr, Phillips, Rudd, Davies, J Boatman, Tones, Sawyer, Thomas, Tighe [capt], Milne, Hodgson, Barff, Hare, Todd, Wallis, Lambert, Barker, Geritz, Henderson.
