The former West skipper was known to his playing mates as Mad Dog but was far from that off the pitch. He was universally liked for his gentleness and charm and the Northern rugby community will be out in force next Sunday for his funeral.

The Stags will be at Mowden Park this Saturday. It's a game which will bring together Dave Mitchell's two clubs in the week that he lost his long battle against leukemia at the age of 33. He leaves behind a wife and a four year old daughter .. and hundreds of friends in the game.
