West Tour June 2005 - Barcelona and Sitges Beach Sevens |

Former Westie Kevin Owen Ellis
has invited us to sunny Sitges, just south of Barcelona, to take part in their
annual Beach 7's tournament and play at least one game with a good
possibility of a second. All first team squad players who go on
tour will, of course, get a run out. We've
entered a first team and a Vets team in the 7's with the first team
guaranteed at least 6 games during the day [using players from a 15 man
squad]. In previous years between 2 and 3 thousand people have watched the
final which is followed by a Beach Party. Middleton, from Cork, are regulars at the tournament and may also give us another First XV game on Sitges' pitch. |

We'll be away for a week
with days in Barcelona and
Porta Ventura [Spain's equivalent of
Disneyland], which are both just half an hour's train ride from Sitges.
Flights will be from Newcastle to Barcelona and, providing we book the
flights soon, it looks like the cost for hotel and flights will only be
about £200 to £250 per person depending on whether it's two to a room or
three to a room. We are setting up a separate bank account and there will be a Tour Fund Raising Committee which we hope will make a considerable dent in the cost of the trip. Beer is cheap. |
