The town is Sitges which is just south of Barcelona. Kevin has had quite an exotic career in engineering and is now lucky enough to be based in Barcelona and istill playing rugby for the Sitges vets side.
He says: " I played for West from 1976 (Mini rugby) to 1983 (2nd team). My father, Noel Ellis, played in the 60,s with Ronnie Greig etc. I left the North East in 1983 - London - Norway and eventually settled in Barcelona in 1994.
"I have been playing for Rugby Club Sitges ( www.rugbyclubsitges.com) for the past 10 years - initially in the 1 team and over the past season with the Veterans team. RCSitges were promoted last year and now are playing in the 1º division of Catalunya."
The Beach Sevens, which includes a vets section, is becoming extremely well known and will be played on Saturday June 18th this year starting early and finishing at about 21.00.
The season ends early in that part of the world because of the heat, but Sitges have kindly agreed to play a "First" team game against us which will also include a few of their vets - just so Mr Bennett won't feel out of place.
Next year we hope Sitges will be able to come over to Hartlepool to play a few games.
At the moment it's looking like we'll from Newcastle to Barcelona on Tuesday 14th returning a week later so that we have plenty of time to see the sights of Barcelona.
