After coming out of the Army, and moving to the town with his better half, he was training at Fitness First and asked our lads why they were also in there a lot. When they told him they played rugby and he said he had always fancied a game that was it! He hadn't met Stabs before.
Sadly, Glyn received a bad ankle injury at West Park St Helens and then joined Cleveland Police so his fledgling rugby career was put on hold.
But now Glyn is training again and, after putting on a few pounds thanks to the Police canteen, he has set his sights on becoming a front row.
He'll have to compete with the regular fronts rows such as Mark Cholmondeley, who has returned from Otley, as well as young Ryan Phillips who can score tries from 10 yards out like any centre. Unfortunately, Ryan works at the new Reg Vardy Vauxhall franchise in Burn Road and has to work a lot of Saturdays - which wasn't a problem when the Tones family owned the garage! With Carlo Robinson out with a shoulder injury lets hope Ryan can get some time off.
Training has been going well but quite a lot of the lads have been away on holiday. Martin Todd, Greg Edwards and Chris Young will be back next week so let's hope for their sake they've kept themselves in trim. It'll be a big season for Chris who missed the whole of last year after suffering nerve damage when he broke a leg the previous season. Hopeully we'll see him in a Stags shirt before long.
