The Pyman Cup is 100 years old this season and, as a result, will be more keenly fought than ever.

But for most of our very young side its probably the first they've heard of Hartlepool and District's oldest trophy.

Most will be looking at as a chance to impress the coaches and the supporters. This season a whole boatload of lads have come through from the junior ranks to make it into the first team. Paul Miller is the latest to look more than comfortable in senior rugby with Greg Edwards looking sharp in his recent appearances from the bench.

Carl Miller, Anth Carr and Martin Todd have all now had a virtually a full season as "first choice first teamers" and Phill Wallis and Paul Moss have each shown some real promise at fly half.

Steve Clayton and Ryan Phillips would probably have been given a chance as well, if they'd been able to train more often, and that goes for quite a few others. Will Richardson was in the first team ranks at the beginning of the season but hasn't been to either train or play much. However, he's hoping to put in a full pre-season.

John Painter will be missing from the side as he is taking his Under 15's to Amsterdam over Easter. That will make Phil Gilbraith the most experienced senior member of the side at just 22, although Paul Rhodes at 35 will be by far and away the oldest. They'll face a well drilled season side in Rhodes's former club. Youth versus experience promsies to provide a fascinating contest with a quarter final against Tech II's the prize.
