It happened five minutes into the second half of a game where Blaydon had just too mmuch pace and power for us. Our youngsters had been putting up a solid show, and had contained Blaydon to 17 points, up until the Chocky incident five minutes into the second half. After that we brought on all the replacements for a run out and number 8 Matt Cook took advantage to run in three tries in the space of ten minutes.
Chocky's injury came as Blaydown winger Greg Dawson raced for the corner. Peter Hodgson put in another superb tackle to deny him his try and Chocky, who was following up, appears to have gone over on his ankle as he pulled up. He was just off the pitch but the game was stopped for some time while the ambulance was called.
We did deserve some points from the game. We could have gone ahead, in fact, but Phil Wallis missed a penalty after 6 minutes. Inevitably they raced straight back down the pitch and got one of their own!
The first quarter was a niggly affair with Dan Harper lucky to have stayed on the pitch after he started throwing punches as early as the first minute.
Allan Milne and Peter Hodgson were superb in defence in midfield and all of the lads stuck at the task and admitted they'd learnt a bit.
The large West contingent was just pleased, and relieved, that Dan Clappison missed his last conversion.
