Horden put up a similar spirited show in the first half, and looked like they could have gone in at half time in the lead when prop Graeme Holloway was bundled over on 39 minutes after we'd struggled to clear our lines.
That converted try added to a 15 minute penalty for the visitors. We had gone ahead thanks to a three minute break from the excellent Darren Thomas who spotted gap and went in under the posts from 25 metres.
But, as Horden rejoiced and looked forward to a much easier second half, Davy Tighe made a similar break right on half time. He converted his effort to make it 14-10 at half time.
It looked nowhere near enough given the conditions, but we ran the ball whenever we could and the pick and drive from the forwards gradually wore Horden down.
On 43 minutes we worked our way into the gale and Martin Todd sped through a gap but was pulled back for a forward pass. But two minutes later we got that vital try.
This time the ball was worked out as far as Peter Hodgson - neither side managed to get it to the wings all afternoon - and the outside centre crashed through on a great ball from Allan Milne. Fortunately all three of our tries were scored beneath the posts and Davy Tighe again converted.
Horden used the gale to get plenty of territory but superb defence restricted them to just one penaty on 60 minutes but Andrew Turner was just wide.
Now its Blaydon away next week. On this form its a pity it hadn't been Rovers.
