RFU funding is now just about non-existent for teams which aren't in the National League so the players, and coach John Stabler, decided to take matters into their own hands.
Stabs says: "We've identified things like travelling costs and new strips and we've told the Board that we will get on and raise as much cash as we can.
"If anyone wants to help, chip in or has some novel fund raising ideas just let us know.
West Chairman Ron Greig said: "We were surprised and delighted when Stabs, Dave Ince and Jamie Connolly came to us and told us what the players had decided to do.
"As everyone knows we have to find £2,500 every month to pay off the old debts and we are busy planning for a new ground and clubhouse so we need all the help we can get.
"We have a bunch of players with tremendous character and the personalities to organise some excellent fund raising do's."
