West u-16s 22 Tynedale u-16s 15 Tynedale took an early lead, when their backs, with quick movement and good hands, sliced through a sleepy West defence to score a converted try. The Tynedale backs were looking as good a set of opposition backs as West had faced for the last two years. As the game progressed West began to get more of a grip, with tackles going in and the forwards gaining greater control. Andrew Robson, playing in an unaccustomed outside centre position, scored one try, and then hooker Chris Forrest scored a good forward's try from 5 metres out to put West in the lead. However, a Tynedale penalty produced a 10-10 half-time score. In the second half West took the game to the visitors, and scored twice more. Good pressure from the backs led to a loose Tynedale pass which bounced off a post into the hands of outside centre Stephen Short, who went over for a simple try. then left wing Luke Austin scored in the corner, converted by Tom Dixon, to give West a solid lead. Tynedale came back with a try of their own, to give an exciting final five minutes, but West held on for an impressive 22-15 victory. With 15 players involved in county matches over the next three weeks, West's next game will be the Otley match, at home, on November 9th. West u-16s 40 Darlington u-16s 5 Darlington Under-16s arrived at West seeking revenge for last season's Cup Final defeat, and with informed sources praising the play of their pack in recent weeks. West were therefore grateful to have everyone apart from Cairns and Jeffries available. West began positively, and took an early lead when Stephen Short, playing at outside centre, scored with a powerful solo run from inside his own half. Tom Dixon converted, and then did so again after No. 8 Aarron Myers went over after 20 minutes to finish a good spell of West pressure. Darlington then pulled one back to give a half-time score of 14-5. In the second half West's fitness told, and they ran away with the game. Second row Dixon scored and converted two tries, and Myers and Short added one more each, one converted by Dixon, to produce a final scoreline of West 40, Darlington 5.
