County Sec In For Top Award

By Simon Carew - May 10 2002
Hartlepool rugby stalwart Chris McLoughlin is one of only three people nominated for the RFU's Unsung Hero award. The County Secretary and Tech man is certainly not "unsung" in Hartlepool where his latest iniaitive is to nudge some heads together to help rugby in the town.

Chris is up against such noteworthies as Lennie Newman, Northampton Saints Team Manager and Rowley (Ro) Bates, President of the Buckinghamshire Referees Society.

The winner will be announced on 20 May

Whoever nominated Chris has made the right choice. He works quietly away behind the scenes ensuring that the vital grass roots of the game flourish. He's currently got his teeth into trying to encourage more youngsters into the game in the town, easing the registration structure so that the smaller clubs find it easier to field sides .... and persuading West and Rovers that the Boxing Day game is good for both clubs and is important for the profile of the game in the town!

Good luck to him.

Chris McLoughlin, RFU North Division County Secretary
