Tommy also missed the start of last season with shin splints and is not at all happy! He's turning up to watch training and is keen to get back to leg work as soon as possible.
He says: "Things are going really well with the whole squad, the lads are really keen to get started, and I'm desperate to be on the pitch with them.
"Training has mainly been with the ball and enjoyable as well as knackering. Having the young lads join us has been grea, some of them are already looking the part and they will be serious pushing for first team places, which is something we haven't had for some time."
Skipper Tim Sawyer has been nursing a niggling knee injury but has returned from his honeymoon a little better. He should be OK for the start of the season.
The coaches will have a large squad to choose from in Saturday's warm up game against Old Boys at Mayfield Park. Durham University student Tom Rance is travelling up from his home in Warwickshire for the game and could well be calling in at Stockport to pick up flanker Ed Britton."
Davy Tighe is likely to be in the fly half berth alongside Darren Thomas once the season starts.
