Mark Baggs dived into the River Tees at Whorlton Lido last Thursday to save the life of a six year old Hartlepool youngster. Baggsy - still suffering from a prolapsed disc - pulled the youngster from the bottom of the river and rescuscitated him.
He was there were with rugby-playing daughter Lois and son Jordan when the lad got into difficulties.
Baggsy says: "There was just one other woman looking on. The lad was swimming in the river when he started to struggle. He disappeared, came up again and screamed then went down again.

"I dived in looking for him and fortunately saw two little eyes staring at me. He was right on the bottom of the river."

"I got him to the river bank and pumped the water out of him and he just said 'Thanks Mister.'"

Mark is less than pleased with the group who were looking after the lad who is from Owton Manor.

He said: "They were eating sandwiches when I went up to them and asked if they were missing anyone. They just said they were but weren't bothered because the lad was always running off.

Those who know Baggsy can imagine his response.
