John Painter and Stu Bennett did a valiant job of trying to prepare the team but it was very much a case of fitting square pegs into round holes.
Darren Thomnas was at 9, Jamie at 10, Tommy Barff and Tom Rance in the centre with Henry Tones and Glyn Dono on the wings. David Mullen, who has only played one full game since Xmas, was at full back.
We should have made early pressure tell but they went ahead with a penalty on 10 minutes in their first attack. Darren Thomas equalized on 25 and it was a close game at this stage.
But West Park's big back row began to run at us and they ran in three tries in the five minutes before half time.
Referee Mr R Warin was not having his finest game - at least I hope he wasn't - and managed to disallow a perfectly good Tim Sawyer try on 50 minutes. Tim touched down and the rolled over at which point a West Park player flopped on him and the ref ruled he'd been held up. One of the West faithful was standing right behind the goalline and let the official know in no uncertain terms of his error.
Then with 11 minutes to go Chocky forced his way over the line but clearly lost the ball before he could touch down. Mr Warin gave that one.
In between West Park exploited our lack of tackling to run in 5 tries but Stuart Bennett, who had come on for the injured Glynn Dono, did get a deserved last try in the final seconds to make the score a little more respectable.
