Injury Problems for West Park

Injury Problems for West Park
Hamstrung
Allan Milne and Davy Tighe are struggling to be fit for the trip to West Park on Saturday. Milney has now played two games while hampered by his hamstring while Davy Tighe played on in some pain on Saturday after injuring his shoulder. West Park also have injury problems and a game on Sunday!

Davy was on top form against the league leaders but there is a ready replacement in Darren Thomas who gets few chances to play in his favoured position.

Allan Milne will be harder to replace. His tough tackling has been a feature of the last two victories and, even though he has been hampered by his hamstring, has still set up several tries. If he is unfit David Mullen or Phil Gilbraith could start the game.

John Stabler says: "We'll wait until after training on Thursday but both Allan and Davy were suffering after last week's game and must be doubtful. Winning definitely took away the pain for a bit but they haven't been able to train so far this week."

Fortunately, Jamie Connolly will be playing. Tank has returned to his best form in the last couple of weeks after a season of uncertainty over injury.

A specialist has now given him the all clear to continue playing and both Chester and Cleckie have suffered as a result.

Henry Tones is back in town after his sojourn to Bangkok with Messrs Walton and Coulson. He will find it hard to get his place in the back row after several storming performances from Durham student Ed Britton.

Tom Rance, his fellow student, is likely to be at full back again after a solid performance last week. His willingness to come into the line was a feature of last week's attacking performance and he was an inch away from an interception try in the final minutes.

West Park - they've dropped the St Helens bit but that's where they play - are safely in mid-table with little to play for and this is game we could win - if we continue where we left off.

West Park have been hit by injuries themselves in the past month. They have had six players long term injured and have lost their fly half as well as having to reorganise the pack. One of the injured forwards may be back for Saturday but they also have the problem of a game on Sunday.

That is the only day they can can play their rearranged Lancashire County Cup quarter final away to Fleetwood. They will pick two squads with the strongest reserved for us but some lads will inevitably have to play two games in two days.

West Park were our first visitors of the season. We eventually went down 35-11 after being reduced to 13 men - Chocky was red carded for taking out a jumper in mid-air from a restart. That was after 60 minutes when we were only trailing by 11-16.

Fortunately our all round discipline has improved since then as we have seen in the last two results.
