You don't need me to tell you that the game against Cleckheaton at Brinkburn tomorrow is almost certain to be off. There are six inches of snow on the pitch and its frozen underneath. More snow is expected early this evening.

There is a prospect of a slow thaw after that but, with plenty of free dates in the rugby calendar, the most likely move is that both sides agree the postponement later today.

Otherwise we face the prospect of Cleckheaton travelling only to find the match ref calls it off anyway.

West vice-Chairman Stu Murray says: "We could take the risk and wait till tomorrow lunchtime for a pitch inspection, but then we risk everyone having a wasted day and losing money on catering. So we will have a look at tea-time tonight."

March 8th is the new date if the game is rearranged.
