We knew it was one of those games when referee Mike Elliott sin binned Carlo Robinson in just the second minute. The prop had swung a punch in the direction of a Morley player who had barged into his back.
The home side took advantage to race into an 8-0 lead with a try from winger Karl Bradshaw, and a penalty from former Welsh international stand off Colin Stephens. In reply Stabs narrowly missed a drop goal.
Then it was Morley's turn to go down to 14 when centre Nick Simpson was sin binned for a high tackle. We pressed their line and Mark Baggs finished off a forwards drive following a drive to go over. Davy Tighe's kick was well short of the posts.
Both sides were making plenty of mistakes and it was no surprise they couldn't add to the score as half time approached.
Referee Elliott then decided that a bit of handbags between Tones and Dave Sonia merited a yellow apiece.
We began the second half on top and went into the lead for the first and only time on 46 minutes when Tim Sawyer rounded off a great forwards drive following a penalty. Davy Tighe missed the conversion but we were in the lead 8-10.
This woke Morley up and they came back straight away and Bradshaw again went over with Stephens converting.
They effectively sealed the game on 52 minutes when Allan Milne kicked ahead in midfield but the ball went straight to the feet of his opposite centre Simpson and ran up his body into his arms. He was away leaving a despairing Milne shaking his head. The kick put Morley 22-10 ahead.
Tim Sawyer had one last card to play. He merged from the back of a maul, broke the first tackle and found himself scampering home from 20 metres and beating the full back in a race to the line. Davy converted to make it 22-17 but after 68 minutes Morely had another slice of luck when a punt through was covered by full back Darren Thomas.
He either took his eye off the ball, or it bobbled, but all he succeeded in doing was to kick it into the path of of full back Scott Evans who gratefully accepted the chance. Stephens missed the conversion but completed the scoring on 78 minutes with a penalty.
In between Simpson got a red card for a high tackle on Thomas.
