Baggsy is Chairman of their Entertainment Committee [honest] and treated us to a very difficult quiz, buffet and a disco. It also gave Stabs another opportunity with the microphone -something he doesn't pass up lightly. Still it saves on hiring a comedian.

His best joke was in inviting one of the club's best supporters to draw the first prize out of the hat. Stabs said: "I'd like to call on a loyal supporter and someone who watches most of our games from the touchline - Chocky Davies."

Stu Bennett and Jamie Connolly had done sterling work help organise the do and sell Xmas draw tickets. Stu was rewarded when his dad won first prize of a Xmas hamper - not bad for a Horden supporter - with Dave Ince and Hodgy's dad Alan also winning top prizes.

West Committee man Les Smith won a bottle of champers, which we expect to be saved until Boxing Day, while Ron Greig turned up with his office staff after a particularly long day.

Ron had spoken at the funeral of Nev Brown before going on to his official office do at the Lotus Garden at lunchtime. They were on their way home from that when they dropped in at Springs at 9.00 pm. Sensibly they didn't enter the quiz.

Rovers stalwart Tony Lowe also dropped in, after having a similar day to Ron, and he was still in full flow at the bar in Springs at the end of the night. Christmas comes often for Tony.

All in all a good night and if you missed it then we'll try to get the players to give us more notice of the next do. Publicity isn't their strong point.
