John Bentley has got together an uncomprising pack but our eight were not going to be phased. Again we stook the match to the opposition in the first ten minutes but our pressure in thye corner couldn't produce the try it deserved.

Instead, Cleckheaton slowly forced their way back into the game on a cold and strangely quiet afternoon [yes John Stabler's parents were there!] and went ahead from a penalty after 14 minutes from Paterson.

Both packs were trying to assert themselves and a lot of what was going on wasn't penalised. Again one of the problems of not having proper touch judges.

The ref and the whole crowd did spot a nasty stamping by second row Craig Rika on young Darren Thomas who had a fine game at his accustomeded No9. Rika got a yellow - mit could have been worse.

Time for West to take advantage? Sadly not as full back Piper darted over after 20 minutes followed by No 8 Ackroyd on 27 minutes.

In between west full back Brad Stovell went off after looking sharp in the opening exchanges. He didn't appear to be injured but in a game which was becoming tasty perhaps Stabs thought it was wise. Hody went to full back with Dono on the wing.

Henry Tones was next into the sin bin on 31 minutes for going over the top but West held out until half time when the score was 17-0.

Stabs half time talk worked yet again. We came out firing on all cylinders and this tim Carl Robinson who looked totally at home at prop galloped home in some style after great work in the loose by Tim Sawyer.

Jamie converted and at 17-7 it was all there to play for. The next try was all important but i6t was the hosts who got it through centre Joff Ward followed five minutes later by another from Alex Burnham.

Matt Emmerson cmae on for Tonesy and then there was big bust up on the half way line after Thomas and Piper had an altercation at the base of a ruck. Both got yellows.

Then the floodgates opened. Cleck got a daft try when Green totally made a has of taking a wide pass but it bounced off his knee and came to a very convenient halt for him to touch down.

Our heads went down and we allowed their No 9 Smith to take atap penalty and race through half a dozen players unhindered. Inevitably Bentos got on the score sheet when he caught a poor Allan Milne kick and shimmied his wayy through our defence. There were a couple of other daft tries to take the score to that unpalatable fifty point mark.

Tommy Barff did manage to have the final word rounding off a fine move in the dying seconds. A cheesed off Jamie decided to go for a drop goal conversion. It ran along the ground - it was one of those days.

During the try blitz Bentley still found time to come to the touchline to complain to Stabs about Chocky Davies. Not sure what Chocky was accused of but there is no escape from the fact that he had a super game. He chased down his opposite number in the second half to save a certain try, made three excellent breaks himself, won lots of line out ball and manged to keep on the right side of the ref. Nicky Parker also had a fine game alongside but now has his arm in a sling and faces possible shoulder x-rays. More bad news for Stabs.
