Under 18's Game

By Dave Picken - October 14 2002
Spare a thought for the Stockton Under 18's players who were instructed to walk off by their coach to save them further punishment at the hands of our lads. He is said to have claimed that our lads were "too rough" but that's not a view shared by many of the onlookers or, it seems, by his players.

It happened 8 minutes into the second half when we were leading 28-3 ... by no means an annihiliation, as the first team will testify.

Certainly, West's forward Carr was sin-binned 5 minutes into the second half but Stockton was pushing very hard, nearly on our goal line and attempting with some sucess to get back into the game when the coach called enough.

This West squad are undefeated this season. At half-time, the score was 28-3, with tries for Palmer, Richardson, Woodward and Borthwick and all four successful conversions for Wallis.

West U16 v Darlington 19-22

This was an open game with West ahead 14-7 at half time. All Wests's tries were by Jason Norman, and conversions by Matt Reay. Notable in defence and support were Adam Readhead and David Conway. Constructive game play was conspicuous from Nik Miller and Chris Martin.

Darlington have a hopst of County players and are a strong outfit. West held the line more than not, and both teams gave an excellent display of fast, smooth rugby. One Darlington player was sin-binned, but this was towards the end of play when both teams were getting tired and mistakes were being made.
